Don’t you love a good anime genius? You know, the insanely smart character who’s planning hundreds of moves ahead of their opponents? Anime is full of these types of characters, ranging from villains to anti-heroes to heroes, almost all of them being rather arrogant in their intelligence. Some of the most notable examples of genius anime characters are Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Bulma from Dragon Ball and Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia. Each of these characters are immensely intelligent prodigies who, thankfully, use their smarts for good, unlike Sosuke Aizen of Bleach, Itachi Uchiha of Naruto Shippuden and Dr. Gero of Dragon Ball Z, all of whom used their brains for evil.

In this video, we go through some of the smartest characters throughout all of anime, from the wittiest baddies to the most cunning heroes and everything in between. We’ve got examples from a ton of anime, including Dragon Ball and its sequel series, Full Metal Panic and My Hero Academia. There are also a few curveballs in there that you might not be expecting, but we don’t want to give it all away, so give it a watch to see which anime smarties made the list and which didn’t quite fit the bill.
