Tropes and cliches are inevitable when it comes to media and storytelling. The difference is what the storytellers decide to do with them. We get a shot at new stories every season and there are shows worth watching every season. However, just the same, we get an opportunity to see the same tropes and cliches lived out in anime every season.

Side mouths in the profiles of anime characters, increasingly intricate and goofy hair colors and styles and so much more are tropes and anime cliches we as fans have largely accepted. Sure, the anime protagonist can say he needs to fight for his friends for the ten billionth time, but we accept it anyway as if it was the first time we’ve seen it. Certain shows just have tropes that’ll literally never get old, such as Goku screaming to power up, or how about the classic game of “Who’s the Protagonist”, where viewers will look at an anime they’ve never seen before and guess who the main character is based on the craziness of their hair. Anime is full of silly logic and cliches that’ll never die out, but some are just flat out silly and we’ve okayed them for years. In this video, we’ll just look at a small sample of them and talk briefly about what makes them so memorable.
