Hinata Shouyou (Japanese: 日向翔陽 Hinata Shōyō) is the main protagonist of the Haikyu!! by Haruichi Furudate. Hinata was motivated to play volleyball when he saw a member of Karasuno High School's soccer team, also known as the Little Giant, score consecutively against opponents who were 6 feet tall. After losing his first and last high school volleyball match against the Kitagawa-Daiichi team, he entered Karasuno High, the school where the Little Giant used to attend. For most of the series, Hinata is a first year student at Karasuno High and one of the team's Middle Blockers.

After graduating from high school, he went to Brazil to practice playing Beach Volleyball. Upon returning to Japan, Hinata joined the MSBY Black Jackals - a First Division team that competed in the V.League. He became a member of the Japan men's national volleyball team during the 2020 Summer Olympics (to be held in 2021 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic). In 2022, Hinata plays for Asas São Paulo - a professional team that competes in the Brazilian Volleyball Super Cup.
