Toei tomó 10 años para producir Knights of the Zodiac y obtuvo derechos directamente de Kurumada Productions.
La película se filmó en Hungría el 2021 pero sólo después que la pandemia lo retrasara por un año.
Toei planea 6 películas de Knight of the Zodiac copiando el modelo del MCU de Marvel, franquicias de Harry Potter y Hunger Games.
Según Toei, la película se hizo para una nueva audiencia y no para los fans. En cambio el anime en 2D que han hecho disponible por streaming es para los fans.
