In Demon Slayer some characters have really different designs, but Rengoku’s strange appearance actually comes from a major family secret. The Rengoku family is a long running one in the world of the anime, who’ve been around since the time of the original Sun Breath User, however it’s not just a coincidence that they rep Flame Breathing and have Flame like hair. This comes from a Rengoku Family Secret Ritual called Kankaigri, which is a ritual the Pregnant women in the family do where throughout their pregnancy, they stare at a lit torch for 2 hours once a week. This ritual of worshiping the flame that takes place 36 times over the 9 month pregnancy, is REALLY hard to do and could definitely injure someone’s eyes, however when it’s completed, without fail the person that is born comes out with the Trademark Rengoku Yellow and Red hair and eyes, clearing up this mysterious aspect of the series.
