Was Anime EVER for Kids?! How a Main Character's Age Reflect The Community

On Episode 18 of the Community Corner Podcast Shannen and LampLight bring on Recca aka Animebackwhen for a complex discussion about how a main character's age could reflect the community at the time. From before the 1980s to now, the escapist flare of anime was always best traveled through the main character of our favorite shows. So I argue that depending on numerous factors including, the current trends or intended audience, Anime could better enhance its ability to make one, "get away from it all".
In today's episode we, noticed how many older anime predating the 2000's had adult characters with more mature themes. this changed however once we began into the new age where anime was more, accessible and seen by younger audiences hence many main characters aged downward. Now we are seeing more anime lean back with older characters as their main protagonists so the phrase "Was Anime EVER for Kids?! " clickbaits but inquires a small point about whether the audience for anime was always meant to be for older teens and adults hence why we see character share similar ages. All that and more in this honestly convoluted discussion on the anime misfit youtube channel.
